The property

The property of La Mazure is made up of many separate areas, which combine to form a unified and cohesive whole. This ensemble is totally adapted to receive guests and allow them to discover the beauty of the setting.

History of La Mazure

The Château at La Mazure was built at the end of the 19th century, originally intended as a place to welcome guests. Continuing in this spirit, today the property serves as a place for hosting language courses, seminars and weddings. For more information about our French and English language immersion courses, please consult the Langue & Nature website.

The property

The property stretches over almost 200 hectares of land, comprising of woods, fields, lakes and farmlands. Landscapes typical of the Mayenne countryside allow you to discover and immerse yourself in all kinds of natural wildlife: pheasants, partridges, deer and wild boar can all be seen roaming around the heart of the property.

The Château

The Château at La Mazure lies at the edge of a 60-hectare forest, a testament to the grandeur of its period. Built overlooking a monumental entrance, the living rooms were spread out to offer panoramic views of a broad landscape. At the time, guests were first welcomed in the Grand Salon before dining in the Grande Salle à Manger. Male guests would then enjoy a cigar in the Fumoir, while “mesdames” could be found chatting in the Petit Salon.

Les Communs

Les Communs and its surrounding area was the centre of activity at La Mazure; here, the gardeners and sharecroppers kept a barnyard, stables, and kennels which helped them maintain and run the entire property. Now newly restored, these buildings host functions and social events in a modern setting, all the while conserving the authenticity of their past.

The Cuisine at La Mazure

Simple but not simplistic, the cuisine at la Mazure is based on simple recipes using seasonal products. Whenever possible, we use the fruit and vegetables grown on site in our own garden, currently under development. A small shop will soon be added to the site, offering products from the Mayenne region.

The Vegetable Garden

The Vegetable Garden is currently undergoing refurbishment. Hosting seminars and weddings provides us with an excellent opportunity to show our guests the many possibilities of cultivating an organic vegetable garden; we are therefore planning on installing several educational vegetable patches to raise awareness of the environment.

The environment

La Mazure is seeking to reduce its carbon footprint in all areas. Our fields and meadows are left in their natural state to encourage local wildlife, and several water points are distributed around the property.

French Lifestyle Program

Langue & Nature offers a unique opportunity to get a global vision of the language. The programme is therefore very specific; the balance between training and activities creates a very pleasant program.

“It was an experience to live in the comfort of a grand château. Surprisingly, it was not intimidating. It felt like being welcomed by a French family. The lunch and dinner were excellent – good exposure and good French cuisine. Additional benefits – meeting French friends and grands châteaux.”

Language Courses

The propriety at la Mazure has been hosting linguistic courses for more than 30 years. These English courses for adolescents and English and French immersions for adults follow the methodology created by Aude le Marié, which provides the participants with the tools required when learning English. For more information on our language courses, please consult our website: www.langueetnature.com

Gastronomy

The Mayenne is a region of quality products. Agriculture and livestock farming have a strong presence in the area and the small producers that supply the property are just a few kilometres away: Trout from Parné, cider and apple juice from Andouillé, organic meat from Maine, cheese from Entrammes…

Culture

Numerous attractions and events bring Laval and its region alive: museums (notably the “lactopole”, part of the Lactalis group), theatre, shows, festivals… The property is also well situated for visiting several tourist attractions of international reclaim: Mont Saint-Michel (1 hour), the Valley of la Loire and its châteaux (1 hour)…

Sports

A trip to la Mazure is often the opportunity to take a break. There’s nothing like a bit of sport to strengthen personal ties and unwind: on offer is tennis, badminton, nature photography (on site), treetop adventure, horse riding, golf, kayaking, walking…
